If you had your first baby after 40

Did you use ivf? Did it occur naturally or with intervention? By yourself or had a boyfriend or husband? If there were issues do you think those issues would have prevented pregnancy at any age?

Any woman over 40 should be smart enough not to have a baby with a “boyfriend.”

Tried IVF but ended up conceiving naturally multiple times after 40. Two children in the end.

Important things:

Check thyroid and get treated if tsh is over 2.0. Target a tsh of 1.0. If you do get pregnant, up thyroid med dose immediately and get tested every four weeks.

Get vit D level up to the high end of normal. Vit D impacts ovarian function. Get 10 minutes of sun daily and supplement.

Look into other supplements. There are books on fertility with recommendations such as royal jelly, resveratrol and others that I don’t recall right now.

Read Taking Charge of Your Fertility. Learn your cycle. You should have sex in the days before you ovulate.

This is sage advice, OP. I wish more people really considered the basics. Are your levels normal? Nutrition? Have you removed stress from your life? Are you sleeping well? Hydrating? Are you getting fresh air and sun? These are all entirely within your control to do. That's not to say that it will work, but if you're struggling to TTC, make sure that you're taking care of yourself.

I forgot to add Mucinex while fertile!

over 40, no IVF or other interventions. Did a general checkup at a gyn before trying to test blood /routine stuff. Used an ovulation monitor (or whatever they are called) Planned sex around the time of ovulation.
After 3 months of trying the GYN suggested a HSG to check tubes - turns out one tube was blocked but guess the the HSG "cleaned out" the other tube, i got pregnant immediately after.

This makes no sense. Mucinex dries up your mucus. You WANT cervical mucus while TTC. Wtf are you talking about?

You should do some basic searching before you chime in with nonsense. This is a tried and true way to produce MORE CM not less. I'm speaking from experience and know other moms who have been successful going this route.

I doubt you'll come back and apologize for your impulsively dumb response, so I'll give you the grace of forgiving you anyway.

It was natural, but this was after a year of 2-3x daily creampies, 6 days per week (one day off per week to “recharge”),so it took a long time and a lot of work to say the least. We were literally all set to go the IVF route but then it happened. I would advocate for a multi factorial approach — do daily creampies like we did, while also pursing IVF.

I had my first and only child with my husband at 42. We conceived naturally after 1.5 years of trying. We had one miscarriage after 8 months of trying. We were about to start IVF and I got pregnant. I had a normal pregnancy with limited complications. I did have large fibroids which I didn’t know about until I got pregnant. As a result, I had a planned c-section. Child is a thriving, healthy teenager. Keeps me young!

Adding on. I did do the HSG procedure after the miscarriage. Sex was timed a few days before ovulation.

Married and had 2 miscarriages at 39, saw an RE and started IVF at 40. Second cycle at 41 was successful and 18 months later pregnant again via FET - 2 children.

What in the world is a creampie...
