Dancer

Best private school for a dancer?

It seems most of the independent schools have rather weak dance teams.

Is Catholic school the way to go for a student who really wants dance to be apart of their high school experience?

Ideally, the child wants to quit competitive dance but needs a good HS team to do so.

If ballet, you will need a private school that will let your DD out early for formal ballet class. I would call around and ask. Or call The Washington Ballet and see if anyone there will tell you what schools the girls go to that let them leave early for class in the afternoons. Catholic school will offer nothing in terms of dance but might allow early dismissal but you will have to call and ask

My daughter dances at Holton-Arms and is having a great experience. She's a lifelong gymnast/dancer but isn't off the charts skilled.

Since your daughter has been doing competitive dance, none of the privates will come close. Ideally see if you can find a studio that she can dance a few days a week to maintain her skills.

Stone Ridge lets girls opt out of PE starting in 7th, I think, for activities like gymnastics, ballet etc that aren’t offered at the school. We’re still in lower school so no experience with this personally, but this is my understanding.

Madeira, NCS, O’Connell and supposedly Visi is brining one back this coming year.

Almost no school dance programs will compare to the level of training at a private studio.

Not sure the level - but AHC definitely has dance and a part of their school:

What kind of dance?

Are you looking for a dance team, a robust musical theatre program, or a school where your child will get excused absences for Nutcracker rehearsals?

...Mom of a triple threat-(ish).
