Injured for tryouts

What strategy would you suggest if your child was injured the weekend before tryouts? Especially if they have not played with this team in the past, but are really hoping to make the team this year.

Would it be helpful at all to have the child show up to tryouts, introduce themselves to the coach, explain the situation, express their desire to be part of the team, and do what they can?

Screwed.

I had a kid that was injured a few years at tryout time. If they are t currently with the club and an “unknown” you are screwed - you can go out at a later date

Sorry, but you're pretty much out of luck.
Best you can do is email the coach/age group director, let them know what happened, and ask if he can go to some club trainings in the fall.

Sorry OP. We just dealt with this recently. Injury from the weekend caused the first tryout to be missed, and there were only two. It was going to be a long shot to make a team, so figured there was no way it would happen by only attending second tryout. We just cut our losses and will maybe try out there next year.

How old? If older- you could send a highlights reel to coach and explain injury.

If we are talking about younger age groups- no real iptions

My daughter got screwed one year with this. She was trying out for Arlington ADP but got the stomach flu and tried to play anyway through it, but had no energy. Did not make any of the teams. But then tried out for travel a few weeks later and made the second team! It’s tough luck, sorry, OP.

Depends on the coach. I always have one slot open for a special player that can make us better down the line. We sometimes have mid seasons adjustments at our club because our view is you committed to the club and not necessarily a team and if you do not live up to the commitment of a top team then we can select someone else who might. Sorry but it is tough out there.

wrong. The contract is parents are paying for a spot on Red Team, not a generic spot at Club Y.

yea out of luck. My D was hurt AT a tryout. She was on the top field and the coach could see it was real (pulled hamstring). He said he would call her back for a practice, but never did and we didnt follow up since she was going to be out for 5 weeks. All I can suggest is that if you kid is a top player, try to get in at a practice before tryouts and if they are hurt for the tryouts, at least the coach has seen them

This happened to my son a couple of times. Ended up stuck on the same team as the previous year—but that wasn’t confirmed until later in the summer when he could practice with the team.

New club, forget it unless you’ve got film.

I know all the replies are saying don’t bother, but it can’t hurt, for this reason. Especially if your kid is awesomely good. If he is and they agree, they may try to shoehorn him into any team with space to hold on to him until space on the appropriate team opens.

You could have your child contact the coach about trying out later but the problem is if you don’t accept the current team’s offer you risk having no team, and if you do and then pull out that’s kind of a jerk move. Some other kid surely wants the spot your child has now.

I wouldn't show up to the tryouts injured but write the coach and see if they are open to letting your DC do a private tryout later.
