Initially I checked it every month to be sure no mistakes were made. I'd like to tell myself its ok to stop doing this because its kind of depressing to see how much I still owe, but is it lazy if I check once a quarter? It's paid automatically every month so I don't need to log in to make monthly payments. |
I never check mine. I look over the annual escrow statement and that's about it. |
I'll look at it again in 10 - 15 years. I know what the payment is. Nothing is going to change. |
Ours is linked to our Monarch account so we see it whenever we check Monarch as part of our overall financial snapshot. |
I check all our accounts quarterly to update a financial tracking sheet so I look at the mortgage then. |
We have seven more payments, so I’m checking more than normal, which was close to never before this. |
My mortgage is through my bank. So I check it regularly, at least once every two weeks when I get paid or to check and see if they have received my payment.
I can't imagine never checking it or only checking quarterly. |
Everything shows up on credit karma, which I check a couple times a week. |
its a silly thing to do, i never look because its so great having locked in money at such a cheap rate. Paying it down is absolutely mental. |
One year our bank f*ked up the monthly payment (which included the escrow amounts for insurance and taxes). Too high, naturally. I can't remember the exact situation but I really had to do all the math for them in person and explain it like they were in 5th grade. Was not impressed.
It happens. |
About once a year when I'm updating my net worth statement. |
It's silly to check your mortgage balance? |
I check regularly because with this house the escrow amount has already been adjusted three times in our first two years. Checking to be sure nothing has fallen through the cracks! |
We are planning to pay ours off in 2 - 4 chunks. So we have been checking. |
No need to check. Even if they make a mistake, your payments are documented and there is a schedule that you are following. |
