When did your kids fall into their natural growth percentile?

I am wondering if my 4 year old will be destined to be super tall or this is just a weird fluke and he will fall back into a normal height (based on his parents heights).

I have two girls who started off in the 90th percentile for height and weight but fell into their normal 50th and 75th percentile by around 2 years old. They have stayed there ever since.

DS has been in the 99th percentile for height and weight since he was born. Has never deviated. He is now 4 and is still in the 99th percentile. He is 48 pounds and about 48" tall.

Should I just assume this is his natural grown percentile? Or will he more than likely fall back down into a more normal range? DH is 5'10" and I (DW) am 5'7" tall.

Double his height from the time he is 2 and that will give you his height give or take 3 inches.

Depends on when puberty hits.

Mine was average until 18 months, then dropped to 35%ile. He's now almost 5'11", at 18, still growing. Late bloomer. Growth spurt around 15/16. At 17, he passed all but one of his friends in height. He might even pass this one friend, if said friend has topped growing.

My girl was always 50th percentile until about age 8 and has dropped down the growth percentiles since then. At 10.5 yo at lot of her friends have started puberty and sprouted many inches, but she's nowhere close and now around 10th percentile. I'm assuming she'll catch back up when she starts puberty, but that may be a few years from now when she's 13/14 yo.

I have one who has bounced around a lot but seemed to settle around the 80th (12), one that's dropped steadily from toddlerhood (80th) until now (9) into the 30th, and one that stays constant around the 40th-50th (7). Not sure you can predict a pattern. Parents are on wildly different ends of the growth chart, which may contribute to the instability.

My husband grew 6” in college. There is no rule with genetics.

My daughters were also very tall when young (90% or more) and now 65% and 45% at 10 and 8. I am 5’3”, but husband is 6’2” with very tall sisters (5’10” and 6’). I think puberty starts playing a role at this point as some girls are starting to develop around 9 and my girls are nowhere near that.

My son has always been 85-90th percentile and he still is at 5… I hope he took after my husband, but who knows. My dad and brother are 5’9” so very much average…

You can't tell a pattern from just a chart, but the timing of puberty is absolutely linked to growth spurts.

Several of the tallest 5th grade girls right now have short parents, but they're also already into puberty and will likely stop growing first. Others are further from puberty and will likely keep growing for longer.

I have two girls. One was always around 98% percentile and one was always around 85%. They are now 5'10 and 5'7, so I don't think either ever left their percentiles

Hard to know. I have a son who was always off the growth chart (99+) and at 18 is 6-5. We are tall though. While it's not all about parental height, it's a lot about parental height. But your kid could be an outlier and much taller in the end than your own heights would have predicted. Your height of 5-7 also indicates some height somewhere in your family.

The general thing I have seen with families I know is if there is a short mom, the sons typically don't get that tall even if dad is tall. I think maternal height and maternal family height is more of a predictor of a potentially super tall boy.

Cue the stories of 5-1 mom with 6-4 son.

I don’t think there is any way to tell, TBH.

My DD was always quite small- 30% for height, barely on the chart for weight. Pretty consistent on the growth charts throughout infant/child years. Hit puberty quite late and ended up 5’7”. But still skinny.

My 9 year old has been 95% since birth for height and weight. He dropped some weight but kept growing taller so is probably about 85% weight now. I would be concerned if thr trajectory changed. I think by age 4 you kind of know.

Op - I have a 6’2” brother. Also will add that I am Asian so am pretty tall in comparison to most Asian women.

We have a boy and a girl. Both were always 99th percentile for height and weight.

Our son is 6’4” and our daughter is 5'10”. Both seemed to reach full height at puberty and haven’t grown since about age 14- both in early 20s now.
