VA Tech hasn't sent a welcome packet to my DC yet. Anyone else? |
They have thousands of packets to mail |
Seriously, OP? As I recall, everything was online. Have you checked? |
Of the VA schools, my kid was accepted at UVA, VT, W&M, and JMU. The only school that didn't send a 'welcome' package was Tech. It was also the only school that didn't mail us a hard copy of the acceptance letter. None of the mailings were over the top (UVA sent a small box with shoe laces, a music playlist, a water bottle sticker, etc), but it showed they were interested beyond the standard online acceptance, and that extra effort was a nice touch. Surprised to see Tech making no effort to sway the decision process. |
Most posters/threads complain about too much marketing. First time I've seen a post REQUESTING. |
It's a public. Those are my tax dollars paying for swag bags, so I'd rather not see it happening. |
Thanks VT for saving us a couple tax/tuition dollars. |
Our kid got a letter and a welcome packet two years ago. It is probably in the mail. |
They've said they're not sending out anything in the mail this year. Some individual programs have sent welcome notes/swag, but seems very limited.
Everything is online for Tech this year. |
+1 We got a folder with information, some stickers, and an official letter. This was in 2022. I wouldn't be surprised if it's all online now though. |
PP again - I do remember getting swag when we went to Admitted Students Day though. |

Will agree that VT was that underwhelming. My kid was accepted early so got a weird check on a form in the mail. It’s okay though! She knew she was admitted.
Got some great swag at W&M today! |
You want to decline the right school for you because they didn't send you shoelaces?
Attend. Hit the bookstore—swag for days! This might actually mean that you are enrolling in a university with fiscal leadership. That is a good thing. |
