If you're against helping Ukraine, and want to help Americans

If you're against helping Ukraine, and want to help Americans why are you against student loan forgiveness? I understand it should be Americans 1st, so why the same people against Ukraine are for helping Americans, but at the end of the day you're against both?

According to these people, true Americans are those who don't go to college.

Because they want the fundamental problem fixed.

Says the GOP policy of us vs them. “Real Americans” vs “ coastal elites” is one good example. And the GOP’s habit of sneering at anything that’s just pure learning, like we have no need for art, philosophy or poetry.

No, the GOP worldview is a dank and mucky one where you have to prove that you’re sufficiently an ogre to be a “real American.”

We don't even need to go to student loan forgiveness, OP. Just look at how many Rs still want to gut ACA, or decline the medicaid expansion, or how they don't support medicare for all.

They do not believe in helping Americans. What they believe in is individuals pulling themselves up by their bootstraps, and not giving out what they perceive to be handouts of any kind. They want low taxes so that they can keep what they earn and not spend it helping others, real or not. They believe that helping out others should not be forced but rather through charity.

They aren't really about "helping Americans" with the funds for Ukraine, but more about not helping others with our tax dollars.

This isn't how politics works... The party system works on that regard, but very few people fall neatly into the democrat / republican scaffold. They simply care more about one thing than the other, so they vote on that issues.

Some republicans are purely pro-life and couldn't care less about any other issues. Others are staunch free market capitalists or military hawks. Others still are just very anti inflation or pro-Israel.

Some democrats care about reproductive rights and legal immigration or a rising stock market. These ideals often compete against each other, but people choose whichever party best aligns with them. Some democrats are pro-Israel.

The only theme that seems consistent across our presidential candidates is that they're pro-Israel. Besides that issue (which one is not allowed to vote on), everyone else has to decide what is important to them and then vote on the basis of that particular issue and take the bad that comes with it (like being pro-Israel).

Best way to help Americans is a lower national debt, a stable currency, and protection of their natural rights.

Oh, neat. Another false choice from a liberal.

Not against help Ukraine, better to fund their victory over Russia than have boots on the ground.

Against loan forgiveness because I had student loans and paid them back. People need to understand what they are getting into when they take out a loan. Then pay it back. Should have pursued a useful degree or understood how long it would be to pay of the loans if you chose a less lucrative profession.

This.

But against sending weapons to Ukraine and Israel because endless war funding promotes conflict and death and enriches the investors of our "defense" industry

Agree, plus we have zero accountability. Apparently, weapons given to Zelensky are showing up in South America. There’s good reason why Ukrainian men don’t want to sacrifice their lives for Zelensky.

Exactly this. Not to mention, the Ukranian people didn't ask to be attacked by Russia. The analogy is a complete failure. People who *VOLUNTARILY* take out loans should be expected to pay them back. No one is forcing anyone to take out loans, much less go to college.

My spouse and I worked our butts off to send our kids to college debt-free. We won't be paying for someone else's kid to get their degree.

+1
And a complete analogy failure. So stupid.
