Perimenopause and lack of sleep

Anonymous
I wake up at 3am to pee. Then I just lie there for hours and cannot drift off. I feel hot flushes and sweaty, mind racing, etc.

I started taking magnesium and that really helped me with falling back to sleep.

How much do you take, and do you take it right before bed? Thanks!

I take magnesium glycinate, I just get it from Costco, and I actually need just half of the recommended 240 mg (so 120 mg for me).

Same. I've done a lot of trial and error on what helps me and what doesn't, and keep meticulous records in a spreadsheet. Importantly, everyone is different. Mag glycinate doesn't work for my DH at all and gives him weird dreams but it works great for me. So, this is my current cocktail that adds 18 minutes on average to my REM sleep (based on my oura ring): ashwaganda (125 mg), magnesium glycinate (120), melatonin (2.5), elysium basis (1 capsule), vitamin D3 patch, and 1/4 tablet of unisom. I am also on HRT, and have an Eight Sleep mattress.
