boycotting SOL movement

how popular is the boycotting SOL Movement at your school? Just not sure how we can start this movement when parents think the kids should take the SOL. They need to understand that if looks bad on FCPS if they don't take the test, and only they don't need them.

If you mean the assessments and not the SOLs in general, not very. I retired last year from teaching ES grades and I rarely had students opting out of SOL testing.

we are starting a new movement- we started OPEN FCPS group back in 2020, and now we are calling for reforms in FCPS

The SOLs don't need reforming.

It is such a nonissue. The boycotting SOL crowd can protest all they want, but ultimately nothing will come of this.

Just let them waste their own time and try not to engage.

I would be fine with getting rid of SOLs because I think they are useless data and there is too much of an emphasis on teaching to a test, it distracts from teaching the curriculum.

My child takes them because they ar ok practice with taking standardized tests.

The Troll starting this thread is just that, a troll.

If you are the OP, could you be less vague and instead clarify what you mean? What is "this movement", and what do you mean by "They need to understand that if looks bad on FCPS if they don't take the test, and only they don't need them"?

You know it's an election year when threads like this show up.

Explain how boycotting something that is mandated by the VDOE and acutally provides insight into how FCPS is performing advances the cause of reforming FCPS, please.
- parent who is fed up enough with FCPS to move to private, but can't possibly see how this helps anything

No. Sols are what keep this system afloat. The state needs to be involved in FCPSs accreditation

SOLs are so ridiculously easy. They are for the lowest common denominator. If a kid can’t pass them they need help.

Posters regurgitate this without knowing what they are talking about. The SOLs aren't easy. Every few years, VDOE adjusts the difficulty up or down and we're in an up period.

My kids admittedly were bpth National Merit Semi-Finalists (one a Finalist) and frankly the SOL's were easy for them. i don't think we gave them a moments notice.

Every State has standardized tests to. "measure" learning. If you do not want your kid to take them, you can opt out.

OP, maybe you should consider homeschooling, then you'll be the proud parent of both the class president and valedictorian all in one!
