My nearly 13 year old is too old for camps and not old enough to be a counselor in training. I actually think the ideal thing for him would be to work as a counselor in training to young kids in Lego camps but I haven't been able to find anything like that for his age.
What are your kids doing with their time all summer? |
Vacation Bible school helper? |
Three different theater camps |
There seem to be many STEM camps for middle schoolers |
My kid is doing Calleva (not sporty but outdoor/adventure stuff).
There are a lot of camps available for that age at Summertimes which is at St Stephens St Agnes (its Alexandria, not sure where you are located). But they have fishing camp, chess, coding, digital creation, and some other non sport options. |
Debate camp |
What county are you in? How far is the kid willing to go or how far are you willing to drive?
There are alot. Just a matter if the kid wants to expand their thinking. I would say at 13+. there are alot of overnight camps. |
Band camp, counselor in training camp, and one math camp the month before school starts to get back up to speed. |
Sailing camp might be a good fit. Also check out capitol city robotics they may be looking for mentors |
Specialty camps. They cater to older kids. |
I would send them to a camp that helps them become more sporty and active if you can (tennis/golf/rock climbing/soccer) - I don't say that to be mean, but if they can't participate in at least a few sports with confidence it will impact them socially for the rest of their lives. |
My middle schooler has an auto-immune illness that makes him heat and sun intolerant. It will be indoor swim and maybe tutoring some kids in his subjects of choice. |
My 12 yr old is going to performing arts day camp, and my 13 yr old is going to travel camp. |
There isn't an eyeroll big enough for the likes of you. Most of the world doesn't play sports as adults. Most of the world didn't play a lot of organized sports as kids, and yet, surprise, they're still confident and secure human beings. Sports is a purely American obsession. It's hilarious that two thirds of American adults are overweight obese! Most of them were quite sporty. They just never learned the really important truth: portion control and no junk food. |
Hanging out at the pool
