WCAC Baseball Tourney

Anyone have knowledge of how WCAC baseball playoffs work or bracket scenarios? Seems like some good games with playoff implications coming on Monday.

Unless they have changed the rules, the top 8 teams are seeded based on the regular season records, there is a one game quarter final elimination game played at the higher seed field, then the semis and finals are best of three series, with two games at the higher seed home field and one at the lower seed.

There is a lot of parity this year. There are four teams who could win it depending on matchups. Will be a great tournament.

Amazing tournament so far. High level play with plenty of drama.

My kid plays in the PVAC (small schools in DMV) and their baseball playoffs are single elimination for quarter, semi, and finals. Not sure any team in the league has the depth of pitching for three games in a weekend, but my kid would love that model. It also has a better chance of the best team winning (in the PVAC the 1,2 and 3 seeds were knocked out in the quarter or semis).

It’s a superior model and better preparation for what they will experience in college. It gets more kids playing time and prevents a lucky team from beating the best team. It’s the way baseball championships are supposed to be decided. The WCAC does it right.

Who’s in the finals?

SJC vs. Gonzaga. Gonzaga defeated PVI in a storybook HR walk-off earlier in the week to reach the championship. SJC swept DeMatha (#1 team in MD) in their typical ruthless business-like approach to the game. In these crazy times it’s refreshing to seeing American kids playing America’s game with passion.
