Where to go in August for a large family with all ages

Anonymous
Looking for summer 2025.

Looking for a vacation spot for a family of about 20 ranging from toddler to 70s. We like water, and cooking so somewhere where we can rent a large house and maybe a smaller house nearby or something like that. We also have active teens and young adults who would love something like hiking trails or golf or whatever.

We are willing to fly, but can’t leave the country.

Lake George NY. My parents were born there. When they retired they moved back. Every summer our whole family would rent a house for the month of August. I am one of 4 siblings and we all got married, had kids. A lot of really good memories made there.

The Outer Banks. This is the main reason we keep going there. There aren't many other places where we can get a 5-6 bedroom house with a pool that is either right on or near the beach (that doesn't cost $15-$20k). You can get a house that is located within a golf community, too.

Despite what people on this board say, there are a lot of things to do in the Outer Banks if you like the outdoors. If you have older people in your group who might not want to venture down to the beach, you can get a house right on the beach so they can watch from the deck or screened-in porch (or so they can stay for a short while and easily head back to the house).

Any ski resort that's 4 seasons - Snowshoe, anything in the Poconos, or further NE, etc.

They'll have a lake for water sports, hiking trails, mtn biking, zip line, pools, golf, etc.

Cheap rates too.

I was also going to say the Outer Banks, Duck specifically so you can walk to the little shopping areas there.
