Affordable plant stores

Anonymous
I’ve noticed that the pant stores and nurseries in Arlington and McLean (near where I live) are very expensive. Does anyone drive farther away to get better prices that the Merrifields and others in this area? If so, where do you go?

Homestead Gardens in Davidsonville.
Or Home Depot/ Lowes/ Walmart.

Affordable is just a stupid word.

Some Walmart stores have a good selection of perennials and take care of them decently. Last year, I drove to the one in Burke and found peonies and fig varieties that Lowe’s and HD didn’t have. Not even Merrifield had them in stock.

Home Depot has healthy plants which are affordable. I just got a beautiful gardenia tree from it for $30. Whole Foods and Costco have inexpensive annuals at this time of the year.

For perennials, I aways get them from Merrifield garden center because they actually survive.

The Lowes in DC has a wonderful variety.

Walmart tends to have the same selection as Home Depot and is cheaper. Lowe’s tends to have a better selection but you need to wait until they have sales cause they really aren’t cheap
