How did you stop giving up on life?

Besides medication how did you stop giving up on life? I care about nothing right now. I have given up. How do I not give up?

It's hard. I have a DH I love and two wonderful dogs. I live what looks like a very happy life, and in a lot of ways it is.

But I'm so tired I wouldn't mind at all if my time were totally up. And I'm well past striving toward new things. And I'm way too young for this.

Sounds so cliche but volunteering. I starting volunteering at the food panty once a week. Just interacting with fellow volunteers and the people coming through the line has been wonderful for my mental well being. The food panty is outdoor so the fresh air also helps.

Meh. I'm the pp above you. I volunteer a lot on top of my job. I volunteer for a homeless shelter, for Homeward Trails animal rescue, and for my church. For the occasional prison ministry as well. And I do VITA during tax season too. Doesn't help me that much.

Are you taking medication? That’s the only thing that truly helped me. I also worked on practicing mindfulness. A lot of negative thoughts just kept repeating in my head. I would try to catch them and notice them.

I'm sorry that you're in so much pain. I hope you can find contentment in life soon.

So sorry, OP. I feel for you.
Sometimes, I have watched some videos by Michael Singer and they have give me perspective.

Hang in there. I am hanging in because I have children and I cannot imagine the PTSD for them if I can’t make it.

Honestly? By going outside and finding a patch of grass, taking your shoes off, wiggling your toes in it, and then sitting in the sun.

The point is to get out of your thinking mind and go back to understanding what it really feels like to be alive. When you stop thinking and just feel the sun on you, notice the air, the sounds, it helps to appreciate what it means to be not dead.

Reading stories by loved ones of people who died by suicide.

Therapy.

Medication

Exercise, sun, fresh air.

To be dead means that you can no longer see the sights, hear the sounds, smell the smells, taste the tastes, or touch the things. So spend a day just focusing on what it really feels like to use all of these senses. Don't think, just feel. Then decide if it's better to be dead or alive.

I'm so sorry that you are feeling this way. I get it, though. I hope that you have a good doctor who can advise you on medications and a therapist to work through your feelings. For me being bored, sad or lonely can trigger these kinds of feelings. Was there a particular trigger? Knowing the trigger could help with making changes.
