Commencement ceremonies at USC cancelled

USC announces it is cancelling its main stage commencement ceremony. Comments shut off.

Brutal for the class of ‘24.
Likely didn’t get a high school graduation during COVID in 2020, and now won’t get a traditional college graduation

They will still have graduation ceremonies for individual schools, where they actually hand out diplomas. They are cancelling the big ceremony with a speaker where none of the students process on stage. For a big school like that, the commencement ceremony is boring and impersonal. The "real" ceremony is more important and meaningful, and those will remain.

I wouldn't mind missing a graduation ceremony because people are standing up for what they believe in and protesting violence and injustice.

Did they say why

In 2020, technically they all graduated just fine.

This is exactly right. It's incredibly disappointing for those kids. To those diminishing the loss, if the big ceremonies weren't meaningful, graduates and families would not bother to attend. They are and they do.
