Endocrinologists familiar with LADA Diabetes Type 1.5

Anonymous
My sibling was diagnosed with this (in another state), and I am currently pre-diabetic. Would like to find an endocrinologist familiar with this Type of diabetes. Am in Montgomery County but willing to travel.

Thank you.

All endocrinologists who treat diabetes would be familiar with this.

I don't have an endocrinologist recommendation - sorry, but the key is that whoever you see understands that your concern is LADA and that they test you for LADA.

My spouse was misdiagnosed as Type 2 (20 years ago) and that misdiagnosis eventually led to diabetic ketoacidosis. So whoever you see, if they don't take your LADA concerns seriously and talk about testing for it, run.

OP here, thank you!

LADA is type I diabetes. Don't let a doctor treat you like a type 2 diabetic. Unfortunately as someone with many family members with type I the adult endos in this area are horrific. So I've got no recommendations for you.

I think I have this. Tell your doctor your sibling and that you would like c peptide test.

Yes, its treated as Type 1 - you just have a honeymoon phase that can last for years

You can also go through JDRF for recommendations possibly. They have been working around Type 1.5 as they say for decades now and might be able to steer you toward a good endo?

I asked a family member - they go to a pratice in Ashburn and primarily see Sarah Kelly - she's a PA
