Fed. Just found out they hired a new person who starts this summer and I am worried they are not an addition but a replacement. Should I ask? |
New person might not even show up. We’ve had that happen. Anyway why do you think this has something to do with you? Yeah ask how many people they plan on hiring maybe there was already a plan in place. Go look at your announcement you applied to if you were recently hired and see if it was posted to hire multiple people |
Have you passed probation? Have performance issues? You generally should not have this sort of concern as a fed. |
That alone is nothing. What kind of fed any performance issues that are being addressed thru your hr? |
Fed jobs don't work like that. |
Nothing thru HR. |
I’m past 1-year probation, but still career conditional. |
What do you mean? |
Then you're fine. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I thought career conditional had to do with your ability to apply for jobs as a tenured employee. I don't believe it changes your right to appeal a termination, which should have by virtue of passing probation. |
DP here but there are generally a finite number of positions a department can have due to funding, etc. You really can’t double fill one slot. If they were going to fire you, they’d do that and then backfill your position. |
You have to be on a PIP first to get fired. Once you're on the PIP, however, it only takes 30 or 45 days to fire. If you pull your work up on the PIP you can pass it. |
OP, you would know. You would have to have received negative performance reviews and then attempted to correct course and failed. You would be on a PIP.
It's difficult to fire a fed even for cause. I've seen it done (deservedly) but the former employee typically sues and receives a settlement. |
Good point. Even if OP were on a PIP and about to be fired, that new hire wouldn't be her replacement. |
If they’ve already hired someone, it doesn’t mean they can’t fire OP. OP if you were getting fired you’d have received notice about it, unless you are in a term or temp position that expires? |
Why did they do this? |
