Where to go for vacation in June???

Anonymous
I'm looking for a family vacation in June. We are a family of 4 with an 18 and 22 y/o. Not looking for just a beach vacation, but something with a little variety - some beach, some activities, keeping active.

If you don’t need a warm ocean beach head north. Adirondacks, Vt or NH or Maine.

theres Chitchen Itza, Xcaret , Tulum, and beach.

San Francisco then go north or south to coastal areas for hiking, kayaking etc.

or Seattle and ONP

or Boulder and a mountain town or RMNP

NorCal is great at this time of year. Zero humidity, so hiking in state parks and beaches are smooth and comfortable. Tons of great beaches with cliffs that are barely populated during the day. You can just go on the PCH and stop at a different beach every 15 minutes.

Don't sleep on Utah. Up by SLC there are multiple gorgeous, walkable, drivable state parks with water and mountain views within a 30 minute drive of each other. The only salt flats in North America are in nearby West Wendover, an absolutely stunning experience. In half a day's drive south you can experience multiple stunning sandstone national parks, with the best night sky in the country. I had to fly in last July for a work thing and am coming back this year for vacation!

Not clear to me if you definitely want to include beach time. If so, maybe —-

Puerto Rico, kayaking and hiking as well as beach plus the historical stuff in old San juan

Mexico City museums and food and historical combined with a hop flight to puerto Vallarta or huatulco

Florida Keyes — more beach but there is kayaking and snorkeling

Spain — start in Madrid then take a hop flight or ground transfer to one of the beaches — not sure which would be best in June though.

Have you been to Puerto Rico yet?

Mix of beach, city/history (Old San Juan), hiking in the rainforest El Yunque (and waterfall swimming), kayaking, fishing, etc. Plus casinos and nightlife.

Can fly or ferry to gorgeous out islands.

NP. Looking for a similar trip as OP (in early August). Where would you make your home base in Northern CA. Will fly out of SF, but we have been there before.

OP - we have similar aged kids looking for the same mix of activities. We were thinking of doing a few days in Southern CA - maybe Laguna Beach/northern SD area and then heading up somewhere north. Thanks for starting this thread!

Np and this appeals to me but from the recent PR threads, it seems like these activities are spread out over the island so either you can’t do them all on one trip, or you spend a few nights in a couple of different locwtions. Do you agree?

NP. Old San Juan is near the airport and only needs a few hours. El Yunque also needs just a few hours. Fajardo is a good place for ocean excursions.

With careful planning, and a rental car, you can stay in just one place and do different things.

OSJ to El Yunque is like 45 mins on a highway? Plenty of tour operators will take you if you don’t want to drive.

No, it’s easy to do a lot.

You rent a car and either stay close to San Juan (Isla Verde, Condado, etc.) or El Yunque (Fajardo, etc.). It’s roughly an hour between the two areas (probably less). Honestly, we’ve stayed in Dorado (fancier area further away) and still drove into San Juan and El Yunque, etc.

It’s a safe island to easily explore.

Eh, we like to head to OSJ for meals. You miss a lot if all you do is venture there once for a few hours. The two forts alone are very interesting and worthy of exploration. The cathedral is cool.
