Arlington to McLean

Weighing our options. Would you or have you switched clubs from Arlington to McLean and would you recommend and why? Mostly interested in girls side.

We did the opposite... but see benefits in both clubs.

So my advice depends on which team you are coming from...

Arlington Red/White are competitive with McLean Green. Arlington Blue and Black are competitive (and usually better) than McLean White.

Not part of the darling 2011 Arlington ECNL team? I see where this is coming from now.

Move on. No need for those comments. Clearly this isn't about ECNL.

I have been a big proponent for MYS for the girls teams, but this past year has been very rough for MYS.

MYS Lost their ECNL team. This may not seem like much, but down the road, it will be important if you are serious about soccer. Your daughter could try out for FVU once ECNL comes around, but it is not the same as having a proprietary MYS ECNL team.

Arlington has a built in ECNL team and a system that will place your daughter on the Arlington ECNL team if she is good enough.

Sorry that's not right... There was no "McLean" ECNL before now, it was Virginia Union for the past few years - McLean and SYC. Now it's FVU - McLean, BRYC and Vienna.. Its no different for McLean players on the girls side for the most part. All the 2011s we know stayed on ECNL, its just called FVU now.

If you are on White, Blue, Black, Silver or Gold and can be on MYS Green, I’d consider it. Other than that not sure it is worth it unless you are trying to get away from a coach.

My understanding is the original poster is correct. Virginia Union was a partnership with SYC but it was McLean’s ECNL charter. They called the shots. Now, it is FVU with all three clubs having equal rights for management etc.

So I could be wrong but that is how it was explained to me.

Yes, Union was a McLean team. FVU is not a McLean team. It is a separate legal entity with different board and management.

That’s not how it’s working in practice. Look at the 2011 ECNL team.

But it matters that Union was under McLean leadership. FVU is not. FVU is a separate legal entity with separate Board and separate management. Totally different club.

we like McLean and really like the 2011 coach for next year.

The grass isn’t always greener but it could be. Depend on the reasons why u want to move. If your kid maybe getting cut and you need a new team then McLean could be a good fit. I have a friend that moved to McLean because the kid got cut and they couldn’t be happier with the coach there. Some that move to McLean in the hope of getting on the higher team may not particularly feel like it’s all better.
