Montgomery can code- is it any good?

Anonymous
Title says it all. Anyone have first hand experience with middle school camps offered by MCPS at Montgomery Can Code ?

My kid did it last year and it was a waste of time. Virtually no actual coding and very simple. Eg draw a picture of what you’d like to code. No challenge and not for kids with any prior experience. In the other hand it was free so you get what you pay for.

Montgomery college refused to allow middle schoolers to walk to and from camp themselves and required parents to wait in a lengthy poorly organized car pool lane. I wouldn’t do it again.

We did it virtually and our kid mostly liked it for the first camp. The second camp was basically a repeat and a waste of time.

It specifically states not to sign up for more than 1 because they're all the same and repeat.

Not sure what PP is talking about, there was no drawing. My kid did actual coding and enjoyed it. Not a beginner, either.

It's an advertisement for Apple.

We got information through our Middle School PTA email.

A few years ago they sent an email offering a different class to those who took it.

Thank you for sharing your experience. The car pool scenario is not ideal for us.
Also, I usually do not look into free programs- however, this was sent by our middle school through PTA email, so looked legit.

You must have attended a different camp. Unless you were a complete beginner and quite slow to learn there was nothing new. For a motivated, stem oriented kid it was a waste of time. Very disappointing unless you are looking for something for your kids to do fill a week that is also low cost (free). That’s a legit reason to do it.
