Plan My Road Trip! Maryland Edition

Anonymous
Ah sweet 16. Our DS just turned 16 and is learning to drive. We're hoping to build a robust 5-6 day road trip within 8ish hours of Maryland.

Criteria-
North of Maryland
lakes/waterfalls/coast; We're looking to get in the water.
Downtown/main street area with great food and shopping.
Roadside attractions
Open to staying in multiple areas
Want to take a different route up and back, possibly make a loop.

Maybe start by driving over to the Eastern Shore and hitting Berlin (cute town and fun shopping) and Assateague. Drive north (not sure about fun roadside attractions along the way) and go to Boston. Or maybe if you like history go to Salem instead. You could come back down to the west and enter MD in Garrett County MD and hit Deep Creek Lake and some of the small towns around there; Oakland has some cute shopping and antique stores (Englanders has a fun diner inside it with the best milkshakes). There's a tiny-house community near the lake you can go visit and tour some of the tiny homes. Also good hiking, and the "fallingwater" Frank Lloyd Wright house isn't far.

Check out the rules for driving in other states with permit. We were surprised that DC isn’t allowed to drive in PA.

Thank you, never would have thought to do that!

I’m surprised you’ve gotten this many responses! I didn’t respond earlier because it was a pretty lazy post. Usually people do initial research to at least give us something to respond to. I don’t want a homework assignment (as it was presented). Having said that…ohiopyle and Fallingwater was my first thought - I see someone else recommended this also.

I've done research and have come up with the same 10 places I've considered in the past. Looking for random suggestions that I'm hoping people will share from personal experience. Small towns aren't the easiest to uncover.

I think this is a decent OP. A lot of OPs are FARRRR lazier.

You could do the Finger Lakes and the Catskills. Adirondacks and Vermont maybe.
