Not a brag thread, just wondering. We just saw our income increase and I’m wondering what would be a normal annual giving amount for our income.
This would include all giving. Schools, churches, other nonprofits you support annually. Assume lots of financial goals and no anticipation of inheritance. If you have a family foundation, good for you, feel free to share, but I’m thinking more of people who donate out of income. |
It would help if you included your income, since you're asking for the "normal annual giving amount for [your] income".
Our percentage is low. Hovers around 5%, but mentally we consider all the money we give to family members to be in the same kind of bucket. We've committed to getting two of our nephews through college, which is not chump change on our income (~$360k), and it's hard to justify donating thousands to our alma maters or something when that primary goal is unmet. |
We are at a similar income level. That’s really generous that you are helping with nephew’s college. |
My parents made just over $1m last year and donated a few hundred dollars. They think paying 6 figures in taxes is enough. |
We're a little less than tithing. $25-27Kish charitable (a number of different nonprofits) on $300K. |
(Public school and one kid, however.) |
I agree for the most part. I do donate to immigrants just coming to this country and to food insecurity charities. I think most charities are scams. |
HHI $1m, we donate about $50k and also support my parents. |
I pay a lot of taxes. A lot of it is spent on things I don't approve. Most of the charities are also scammy, with fat salaries for leaderships.
I do donate to local animal shelters but that's it. |
I donate a lot of time, organizational skills, and email work. Manpower is more valuable than money in a lot of situations. HHI $190k
Hesitant to give money unless I know exactly where it is going to be used. Probably donate about $500 a year. |
HHI: $450K
Annual Donation(s): $8k - $9k |
HHI about $400k and we donate well under 1% of that but we have student loans, two kids in daycare, etc. |
HHI between 500-800k. Probably donate 1k? And a lot of time and energy to kids' public school/rec teams. |
350k/0 and don’t feel guilty about it |
That's what stingy people say to justify being stingy even though they have the money. Meanwhile charities and NGOs are keeping kids from starving and the sick from dying (without any help from rich stingy people like you.) |
