Dinnerware Light and diswasher safe

| I have an opportunity to purchase everyday dishes. Is there such a thing as lightweight and dishwasher safe? I see the great patterns with melamine now but wonder how they do in a dishwasher, so would appreciate others opinions who have recently purchased and were pleased. PS my kids are grown and out. Thanks. |

| Melamine is dishwasher safe, but I second corelle. Our corelle is lighter than the melamine we use for outdoor dining. We have nicer china for dinner parties, but the dinnerware we use every day is always corelle. |
