drug tests, TB test, fingerprinting

I've actually never brought this up irl to another teacher but has anyone else had to do various drug tests, TB tests, or fingerprinting in weird places to substitute teach or to be a regular teacher?

I've been teaching for the past 17 years in various settings. Yes, to the fingerprints and TB test in strange locations. I don't remember a drug test.

Yes, some districts handle it in-house, others have you drive around town. I’ve only been drug tested once, not in VA

Fingerprinting- yes. No to drug or TB testing. I did teach overseas at two different international schools and both required actual chest x-rays for TB.

My high school senior will be working as a teacher's aide for his district's summer school. He got to choose where to get the TB test because he (we, his parents) paid for it.

He's supposed to get fingerprinted at the district central office, but he is still 17 years old so he has to wait a few more weeks for his birthday.

I don't think they said anything about drug testing. But his older brothers have had retail jobs (grocery stores, Lowe's, etc.) where everyone is drug tested upon hire, so drug testing for someone working with children seems very reasonable to me.

Thanks for the replies. It was something I always completed as part of the process to teach or sub but always found it very weird. The techs sometimes are questionable and once I had to drive to a fingerprinting location that was housed in the back of a shooting range for example.

If it's all in house, that is nice and you wouldn't have had to experience having to go to these places such as Quest Diagnostics or IdentoGo in a random strip mall or a weird building.

My DH has never had to jump through these hoops working a Corporate job.

I work at a daycare and we need to complete fingerprinting every 3 yrs, TB test every 2 yrs and a drug test upon hire - all of which are mandated by OSSE. None of which is done in house by DC Gov.

You are working with children so fingerprinting is a no brainer. You tint someone with a criminal background around your kids. TB is highly contagious so I can understand that. Drug testing is also a good idea because you are working with kids.

I was a teacher's aide in NY, and had to get fingerprinted. I can't recall where I had to go, but do recall that I laughed so hard through the process that the woman administering the fingerprinting started laughing too. Good times!

Just want to add I was being fingerprinted to see that I hadn't been arrested for being a pedophile in the state of NY. Apparently being a pedophile in other states is no problem though. (Clearly there was a hole in their background checks that I hope they've since tightened.)
