ACLU sues Jackson-Reed

Anonymous
The Arab Student Union and ACLU are filling a suit against Jackson-Reed HS blaming the school has violated students first amendment right by preventing the spread of pro-Palestine content. Any predictions on the outcome for the school?
I personally think that the school grossly handled the situation, if there ever even was one. I have already heard details from DD that were confirmed in the article bellow.

That would be highly inappropriate to distribute hateful or religious information. The school is right. How can the ACLU support that?

Where did you see it would be hateful or religious? (Also, schools do religious crap ALL THE TIME. Drives me nuts. Notice your school how much Christmas/Santa/etc stuff happens every year)

Was the information hateful or religious?

The war in Palestine is a political issue with religious roots, as have many political issues. Somewhere there is a line between discussing religions and proselytizing.

Yeah, agree with ACLU on this. If the group did something anti-semitic or hateful, fine, but shutting them down specifically because they want to speak up about a war seems inappropriate.

Where is the money going to come from to defend this action?

Why does DCPS stand behind Principal Sah Brown? Where is Quinne Harris-Lindsey, the general counsel of DCPS, in this? Brown clearly violated student speech rights under the First Amendment, as any lawyer would quickly determine.

I don't think this article provides enough information about the planned events or materials to be distributed to be able to say if it was antisemitic/hateful or not.

DCPS should ask MPD- they've refined losing to the ACLU into and art form.

I mean, the ACLU helped the KKK win the right to march. That's what they do.

There is a link to the censored materials.

The movie they wanted to show, Occupation of the American Mind, is very anti-semitic. It is narrated by Roger Waters who now freely wears Nazi uniforms to his concerts.

Wow! I’m impressed with the students for not giving up

It’s an interesting case. Does the jR administration not review club content?

It's a documentary covering Israel's military campaign in Gaza in 2014, and the public relations strategy employed by the Israeli government to counter sympathy for the civilians killed and injured (they hired Frank Luntz, oddly).

If the students want to show it, I don't see why not.
