IAD to Union Station: do I have enough time?

Anonymous
If my international flight lands at 7 pm, and I get a cab from Dulles, can I make the 9 pm Acela at Union Station? One checked bag and Global Entry.

What day of the week?

Maybe... It will be tight.

It will be tight as it all depends on how long it takes to get your bag.
I was at DCA a few weeks ago and if was over 30 minutes from getting to baggage claim to bags coming out.

Friday? Hell no.

You would be better off catching the train at BWI (more direct route than going through the city to Union Station), but on a Friday you are going to hit a ton of traffic and an insane uber rate.

I will not take the chance.

Would metro be more reliable, given traffic?
Anonymous
Not completely impossible but unlikely

Traffic will not be a problem if OP gets on the road at say 7:30 PM. Zero traffic on Dulles Access road, and will be almost 8 PM by the time they hit the beltway. Not likely to be a problem.

If flight arrival was at say 4 PM metro would probably be pretty similar timing wise.

This.

Possible if you have global entry.

I wouldn't bet on it.

No. Highly unlikely.

By the time you deplane and get to immigration it will be 730. Even if Global Entry you might not get your bag until closer to 8. Then if you hit any sort of traffic, you're screwed.

An international flight landing at 7 p.m.? Like wheels down at 7? She's not getting on the road by 7:30. More like 8.
