Free dress day outfit recommendations

DD is 13 years old and attends a Catholic school. She can’t seem to find outfits that she would like to wear on free dress days besides a baggy t shirt and shorts which are technically not allowed. We have gone to Lilly Pulitzer, Old Navy, J Crew, Target, Lululemon, and a few others, and she hasn’t cared for anything in particular. Suggestions on where we could shop are welcome. Thank you

How can that be not allowed?

This is probably really specific and goes school by school depending on free dress rules.

At our school for free dress the 5th graders and older are all in plain baggy sweats with elastic at the ankles and oversized crewneck sweatshirts unless it is very, very hot. Then they wear oversized crewneck sweatshirts and things like Lululemon shorts that don't even show under the sweatshirts.

The girls who "dress up" wear baggy t-shirts and those wide-legged cargo pants in light colors made of chino-y fabric. In my mind they look like me shopping at urban outfitters in 1998.

I love seeing the little kids on free dress days. You can tell that they are trying to wear all of their favorite clothing items in one outfit. It's stuff like a printed dress over printed leggings under a printed hoodie with two different hair accessories and fancy socks and a cat-ear headband.

It's a Free Dress Day at a middle school or high school, not $5 jeans day for the American Heart Association at the GAO.

My teens can wear what they want every day but it’s all from Old Navy and Wild Fable (Target) with Lulu and Athleta pieces sprinkled in.

What 13 year old wants to shop at Ann Taylor?!

Thrift store. Makes it more of a fun hunt and then she won't be wearing the same things as everyone else.

H&M, Hollister and American Eagle/Aerie are the big ones in my house, plus Lululemon but I generally reserve that one for birthdays/Christmas. One of my daughters prefers Francesca's and Altar'd State but she goes for a slightly different look than her sisters (more frilly and pink).

It might help if you say the dress code limits you're working under, like no leggings, no cropped shirts or tank tops, no tight jeans, etc? Is it no shorts at all or they just have to be a certain length?

Another American Eagle vote. Maybe Urban Outfitters. Uniqlo. Anthropologie.
