locksmith cost - new locks

Anonymous
I have Baldwin locks/doorhandles on all the doors of my house that look like this: https://www.build.com/product/summary/360253?uid=1336637&jmtest=gg-gbav2_1336637&inv=1&&source=gg-gba-pla_1336637!c13450498460!a126142401329!dm!ng&gad_source=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIzrOamJ_ZhQMVYVxHAR286QFkEAQYDCABEgKyG_D_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

Any idea how much it will cost to have a locksmith re-key the locks? We just bought the house and I’m not sure if I should bother with this but want a sense of the cost.

Thank you!

how many locks? i'd guess $150 to come out and $50-$100 per door to rekey, but i've always just replaced my own cylinders myself.

This. Maybe a little more money though. Change them yourself- very easy.

Thanks from OP. I have no idea how to rekey a door but appreciate that suggestion.

I haven't done it in awhile so my pricing is outdated, but I would ABSOLUTELY do it if you just bought the place. You have no idea how many people, or who, has a key to your house right now.

*rekeying* is hard if you aren't a locksmith.

replacing the cylinder is usually a matter of removing the cover plate on the latch face of door, loosening the set pin, and unscrewing the cylinder and screwing in a new one.

to rekey, the locksmith will remove the cylinder, disassemble the lock, put in the new pins for the new keyway, and then reassemble, test, and reinstall.

if all of the locks are the same, you'd just need to tell them how many, and how many keys you want, and they would come out with the new keys and pins and do the work in a few hours.

you want to call an actual brick and mortar place like sure-fit security for a quote.
