Enrollment: Info sharing options

Anonymous
First-time enrollee for our DD, rising PK4. On the online enrollment, there are a bunch options on sharing information about your child: address, name, etc. My default would be to NOT share this info, just because I don't know where it ends up. My only hesitation is that it might be a basis for some community building. Can anyone weigh in on whether hiding this info will be a detriment to becoming part of the school community? Thanks!

You definitely do have to share your address with the school. That's how they know you are a DC resident.

If you don't want to share the information for a community directory or something, just leave it blank. But if you own a home, it's probably pretty easy for anyone to Google.

Compromise: Share an email address. Someone might use it for an all class birthday invitation or something like that. Addresses not so much. Phone numbers you can easily give out on your own on an individual basis.

There is a box on the paperwork (in Aspen) that you can check/uncheck to release the information for school community purposes. FWIW, we’re in year 6 at our IB school (Ward 4) and have never received any sort of handbook of addresses.

I agree with sharing email address. It definitely helps with birthday invites and play dates, especially if your child or their friend attends before care or after care and the other doesn’t, there are parents you don’t see at pickup.

OP here: will take your advice on sharing email, thanks for the replies!

Share email, address and phone number. The address and phone number will be used in a student directory and it's so much easier to find parents for playdates/invites/etc when they share this info.
