Weird lymph node, breast question

Anonymous
I never talk like this, but here it goes… A couple days ago, I developed a silver dollar sized rash with kind of big bumps on the top of one breast and a weird pinching pain at back of my under arm same side of the body - like a terrible boil that isn’t actually there. I also feel like I have slightly swollen glands in my throat. I am fighting off a virus and my body is going nuts? I don’t get weird clusters of symptoms, typically. Coincidentally, my mammogram is tomorrow, so I guess that will eliminate the breast as an issue. I’m 43 with elementary aged kids.

Does the rash look like an orange peel? That's a sign of inflammatory breast cancer.

I hope everything checks out tomorrow!

Sounds like shingles

+1 especially the weird pinching pain. If Shingles The rash should turn blistery and be in streaks along one side of the body. Go to doc for antiviral, Shingles sucks.

Thanks! the rash is lumpy, red and white, surrounded by some red and swollen feeling. It doesn’t seem blistery, but maybe blisters haven’t formed yet. The pain is in the underarm, but … ah the breast does not feel good. I started feeling body soreness after I posted and then I fell asleep on the couch. Clearly, I’m calling the doctor first thing. At first, I thought I had poison ivy. Then, I thought it was a skin infection because it looks so inflamed and I feel like I’m fighting something off. Shingles could be a possibility, but it is not obviously running along a nerve. I had terrible chicken pox as a kid. I was recently around unvaccinated little kids - I’m glad I didn’t get too close!

Thank you for the responses.

OP- now I have spots spreading through my underarm. Definitely shingles. Thank you!

The primary care doctor said it’s probably shingles, but not a typical presentation. She said it could be a skin infection and also gave me an antibiotic to start taking if the inflammation spreads. Not a totally satisfying Dr visit.

This isn't at all what she described-and your tone is weird. Stop responding if this is how you do it.

What the heck? A bumpy rash can be like an orange peel, and wishing someone well is a nice tone, not a weird one. You're the one who should stop responding.

OP, I have shingles. I’ve had it off and on for almost two years. I’m in my 40s. I had to go to a teaching hospital to get the diagnosis confirmed.

Mine was initially triggered by a Mirena IUD, but it can be triggered by other infections as well.

OP- wow, two years is a long time to be dealing with this. I actually have had mirenas for 8-9 years. Not the cause of my shingles. I guess mine was due to stress. I hope you are able to get some relief.
