No.
Just no. Jesus is not part of Passover. Christians need to stop co-opting Passover and claiming Jesus is part of the Exodus story. I can't believe I'm now seeing some Christians wearing a kippah now (totally unacceptable and inappropriate!!), along with having a Haggadah and matzah covers. Seriously?? I've read some ridiculous "justifications" for Christians celebrating and it is just unbelievable to me, although clearly it is.. Come on, y'all.. it's disappointing to say the least. |
Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us.
1 Corinthians 5:7 |
Do you even know the history of Passover?
I am a Jew. Yes kippah shit is BS. However, Passover celebrations would not be a Jewish Passover celebration so what is your beef? Who cares? |
You are just now catching on that evangelicals are really just "Jew wannabes." It's why they support all Israeli politics and spend so much time talking about God's chosen people during sermons. |
Growing up, we would go to a dinner at church during which the Passover story was read from Exodus, and we ate a simple meal of soup and bread together. There was a simple Christian prayer before the meal, the general focus was on God being merciful. It was not called “celebrating Passover” per se, it was just a recognition of a special event. |
No. |
Huh?? Christians are placing Jesus at the center of "their" Passover celebrations. They also claim the three matzahs represent the trinity. Among other ridiculous things. They're taking a Jewish celebration and ripping it apart to make it Christian. It's offensive and inappropriate. |
Yes, it's all about Israel getting destroyed or whatever bull in order for Jesus to make the second coming. That rapture shit. And they are doing serious proselytizing in Israel to Jews because they believe they have to convert in order for the second coming to occur. It's all incredibly disgusting to me. |
I don't know any Christians celebrating Passover except this one Catholic I know who is super into Judaism and I think might convert.
Otherwise, I think this is only a thing among those fringe evangelicals who are into end-times stuff. |
My parents’ Lutheran church hosted a Seder for congregants, complete with Seder plates and Haggadot. I think that was very disrespectful, even though that’s the opposite of what they intended. Passover isn’t a party theme, like casino night. |
Corinthians isn't part of the Jewish Bible, though, so this doesn't really help win any theological arguments grounded in Judaism. |
Jesus celebrated Passover so it makes sense to want to experience events in the life of Jesus. I am personally not offended at all. |
Jesus is our Passover Lamb; He was slaughtered so that we may be saved. |
Are they celebrating it on Holy Thursday? |
The converse is also true, so if canon is the basis for debate it is tautological. |
