I can't with the acrylic nails trend

My 6th grader is begging for them, as is my 8th grader. It's all so expensive and impractical. I can't believe people fund this sort of thing for 12 and 14 year olds. Rant over

I had two DD no I would not do this either.

What I did do was say they could spend their own monies on it if they like.

And for special occasions for example we went to a cousins wedding they got their nails done

We can easily have afforded this but I think it's such a huge waste of money.

You should see the 20-somethings in my conservative office with these acrylic pointy tipped be-jeweled ombre nails. I don't get it. At all.

I would just give them a personal allowance and offload the job of deciding what to do with it.

I’m with you on the nails, they give me the ick so hard. I hate them.

These were my two guidelines as well. My daughter also had a kit she purchased, and she got pretty good at doing them at home.

They skeeve me out ever since I worked in a hospital and learned why they were forbidden for some employees. I would not let a 6th or 8th grader get them.

I was getting my haircut a few months ago and the hairdresser had them. Grossed me out that her hands with those nails were in my hair, found a new stylist after that.

They gross me out too.

Oh yippie, another thread to shit all over something women do that has zero beating on your life.

OP's life maybe since her daughters are asking. But the rest who are just "grossed out" for no reason at all can suck it.

OP, tell them "no." You are their mother and I'm sure this is not the first or the last time you will have to do this. But you know this already. You just wanted to start a pointless thread.

Get them press on nails. Impress is great. They cost $8

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my nails and so does my DH. I'll ask your opinion on them when you start paying for me to get my nails done.

I have plenty of kindergarteners who wear them! Ridiculous.

The only time I am "grossed out" is when they are handling my food without gloves. I know no one is taking out a toothbrush and scrubbing under their nails. People barely wash their hands. I'm not coming back there.

Other than that, carry on.

My kid also begs for them. She’s 7th grade. I don’t have them and I’m certainly not paying for them for my kid so, no. She wears the fake nails and has turned them into sort of an art. I hate them and she knows it but it’s not the hill I’m going to die on. Bigger fish to fry these days…..

Also my approach and my DD decided they weren't worth her own money.
