They applied for the lowest paying category, $65K/yr. The company said they withdrew the application when they found out about it, which they said was filed by a "prior administration". However, the BofL which issues the visas has stated that there is no record of the company withdrawing it.

It's certainly in line with his hypocrisy, like when his administration wanted to get rid of chain migration, something his wife used to get her family here.

I'm a European living in the US on a work visa. Many of friends are foreigners working for the World Bank, the IMF, the NIH, etc.

Visas are not handed out like candy, contrary to what you may think. Visas expire, renewing can be a lot of paperwork, and if you over stay, you're in BIG TROUBLE.

As someone who is in the IT recruitment space, I can assure you that there are not a lot of out of work IT workers. They make just as much money as they always have, and are often in the driver's seat when it comes to salary negotitations. I believe IT unemployment rate is below 3%, less than the overall unemployment rate.
