ISO of hotel recs, places to go/see and areas to avoid. Is downtown safe/recommended?

St. Augustine isn't far if you want a more vacation area. Jax seems pretty safe. It's a suburb.

I don't have much to recommend about Jacksonville... is this a vacation or work trip?

+1 St. Augustine or Amelia Island.

Thank you! OP here. It’s a one night/24 hour layover type situation as I meet up with someone en route to a vacation in the Keys.

Wondering if there’s fun things to do for the day and a safe area to stay.

If you absolutely have to be in Jacksonville proper, I would stay near downtown neighborhood of San Marco. There is a main street that has shops for pedestrian activity and restaurants. Otherwise stay a night at Ponte Vedra Inn and enjoy a dinner at the beach. 20 mjns from Jacksonville.

Stay here! We've stayed there twice for one night stays as we breeze through Jacksonville. It's an amazingly fun place to stay within walking distance to some cute neighborhood restaurants:

We spent an overnight in Jacksonville recently. We had afternoon tea here: https://www.riverdaleinn.com/. We didn’t stay there but it looked quaint and nice. I recommend the Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens- it was really nice! Wish I didn’t have cranky teens in tow so I could’ve spent more time there. We also went to a baseball game at the Jumbo Shrimp’s stadium (it was a college game but it was nice and parking was cheap and close, so I assume similar for their MiLB games).

It's a decent little city. Agree with the St. Augustine suggestion, though.

We just returned! Jacksonville beach was fun with lots to do and Ponte Vedra is beautiful with no commercial stuff (Mickel Beach has the public entrance). The actual city of Jacksonville is meh.

What is with all the Jacksonville threads lately?

Jacksonville is a great location and has recently become popular. It has a lot to offer but the unfortunate part is it is getting (like most of FL) overpopulated. It has great weather and lots of lifestyle opportunities.
