Mattress purchase. How did you decide?

Anonymous
It has been a long time we bought one and it is time to buy a new mattress. I am looking for a queen. Not many stores seem to keep mattresses to check out in person and if they do, the selection seems limited. I was hoping to buy from Costco but ofcourse they don't have them in the store.

Given that, how did you decide on which one to buy? All we are looking for a basic queen firm that will last for a few years.

We went to Mattress Firm and tried them out—I don’t think I could ever buy one of those mattress in a box deals unless I tried them first.

(We went with a Purple 4 mattress; I can barely sleep at any hotel anymore. This thing has spoiled me.)

We tested out a bunch: big box stores, Satvaa, green stores, etc...

Ended up going with a Milly.

Ended up taking advantage of the 90 day swap out and got a slightly less firm one. It's great.

I've done well buying from Costco online, just looking at reviews, and of course if you want a brand name that Costco carries you could visit a mattress store to try it.

Of my Costco purchases, Novaform was OK but too hot, Comfort Tech is fine for the price and for the adjustable bed in my guestroom, and I love my Molecule mattress that I use daily.

Like most major decisions, I slept on it.

I did a ton of research online. Ended up with a Saatva. It’s fine, but if I had it to do over again I’d get what I had before—a Westin Heavenly Bed, which I bought after loving it when sleeping in a hotel.

We went to a store and laid on mattresses! It was kind of funny walking around in our socks and carrying pillows. Ended up with a temperpedic hybrid

I took a chance on a Saatva, and have been happy. They make the install very easy.

Your old sheets may not fit it though.

I find that the process of buying a mattress is worse than the process of buying a car, which is pretty bad. Good luck.

this place stocks most of the "online" mattresses so you can compare: https://www.sleepare.com/us/book-tysons/

saatva and purple have standalone showrooms in the area.

The best thing about Costco is that if you order it online and hate it, they will come pick it up when you return it. Anytime.

We have a Casper from Costco in our guest room and it's really comfortable. If we ever have to buy a new mattress, we're probably going to get the Stearns & Foster one from Costco that gets really good reviews.

I bought a Tempur-Pedic from Costco a couple months ago. Very happy with it but their return policy sealed the deal.
