FASFA - Critical Tax Discrepencies

Anonymous
Anyone get this email? What does it mean? - I didn't input our tax data, they pulled it from the IRS (and we are fully filed/paid/owed very little). Not sure of the issue.

Important Note: The U.S. Department of Education (Department) has identified critical tax data discrepancies that may be affecting your 2024–25 FAFSA. The Department has identified that your FAFSA will be reprocessed by May 1st correcting these critical issues. For more information and the latest update from the Department on this issue please click here. Please note at this time you do not need to take any further action! Once MHEC receives your reprocessed FAFSA you will be notified of your award eligibility at that time. Unfortunately, MHEC staff will NOT be able to inform you of the specific error affecting your FAFSA and how your eligibility will be affected once it has been reprocessed. If you have any specific questions regarding your FAFSA, please click here to contact the office of Federal Student Aid.

This has been the worst shitshow.

Yep. From Maryland. So national decision day is May 1st, but our forms won’t be reprocessed until after May 1st and we will not know what direction our SAI is going until after that and will not receive a financial statement from any school until who know when. WTF?!

Jesus, we just got the same letter. This is a SHIT SHOW.

Well I guess at least we are at the same shit show. I wonder if it's just a Maryland issue.

I'm surprised DOE hasn't been sued yet. A mandamus action to force them to do their job by their deadlines should have been filed months ago

I just received letter today this is ridiculous

We received an email from two of the schools DC is considering notifying us of this issue on 4/12 & 4/17. Apparently DOE calculated our data (also automatically populated via IRS) incorrectly. There's no timeline for that correction and reprocessing so it's very likely that we won't be able to compare financial aid offers/COA packages before the 5/1 or 5/15 deadlines. Even if some schools are willing to work with us, we'll lose merit offers by those deadlines. It's absolute bullshit.
