A close friends adult son(20 ish) had a mental breakdown right before exams. He froze half way through the exam and has been in a severe state of anxiety, with no sleep for days

They had to take him to the ER since he was hallucinating in extreme anxiety. The parents are also dealing with the courts since he is an adult and they do not have the authority to make decisions on his behalf. My heart hurts for the both of them and dh and I are at a loss on how to help them navigate the system and get their son the help he needs to recover. As on now, the hospital is making decisions on the next steps. Pls help with any suggestions
