Help! Need summer camp recommendations

Anonymous
Our nanny just had a serious health issue. I have no idea if she will be available during the summer. Because we had her (and other family stressors), we didn't register or even look at summer camps.

Are there any that might still have openings? Any I could get on a wait list? I hope it won't come to that, but I don't even know where to start. Thank you

What age are your kids? Where are you located? What are their interests?

It's very hard to give recommendations without knowing your location, so I'd add that.

But as a start: look at your county's parks and rec page and see what's available.

Sorry, we are in Petworth. DD is 5. Likes swimming, art, outside. Thank you everyone.

It's likely going to be easier to find a summer nanny than to cobble together camps with vacancies at this point.

OP here, that is what I'm thinking, too. Can anyone recommend any agencies that would help with this? The one we used for our initial nanny isn't here anymore.

Check the recreation center page as a start. Then look at places like tae kwon do or places that have after school care. At age 5, she is young enough yoi might be able to sign her up for a bright horizons type place for the whole summer.

OP I don’t know if this is frowned upon,.. but if you know kids from preschool or moms in the neighborhood you could ask if anyone has a nanny and is open to a nanny share. So your DD would be with someone’s nanny and kid(s) during the day and you split the cost.

sleepaway or day?

her kid is 5. I doubt she’s sending her to sleep away camp.

OP here, thank you for all the helpful responses. If I could find a few days camps that would be good, but looking around and based on responses, a daycare summer camp might seems to make more sense.

Try calling Casa Lala, Salsa With Silvia, Teatro de la Luna, Silver Stars Gymnastics, Yoga Heights, and Estrellitas and see if they have any weeks open, or short waitlists for any weeks. If she's in DCPS, you could also see if there's still spots available in the DCPS summer school program. We've had fine experiences at Raymond Rec Center day off school camps, but bad to very bad experiences with other DPR camps.

There is a camping forum. You should post there.
