Beloved High school college counselor suddenly placed on indefinite leave by school without any explanation given to school community during critical college application process, leaving students and parents concerned about health of counselor and sudden loss of person vital to college application process

Sounds like a health concern, which is private. Sorry it impacts the kids, but surely that person's life and wellbeing matter more.

Such an inappropriate post, OP. This person deserves privacy. Take your "concerns" to the school admin.

Being “placed on leave” and “taking leave” are very different.

Students and parents will survive by reaching out to whomever the school has given the counselor’s caseload.

There is no critical application process on April 21st. Application season happens in the fall. Counselor letters are in the summer and fall.

Placed on leave sounds like they did something wrong. Took leave sounds like they had a health or family emergency.

You're not going to hear any explanation from school because this is covered by legal processes regardless of whether its leave for medical reasons or if they've been put on a performance plan and then suspended. School will NOT tell you what happened. If it's for health reasons, it's none of your business and is urgent. If it's for performance reasons, no school is so naive or inept that they would put someone on leave for fun without really good reasons during a "critical" time.

There is no counselor who is so good at their job that they can get your child into a college they wouldn't otherwise be able to access. And if they are, then your child would end up at a school that wasn't the right fit anyway.

It's so funny how you find a HS college counselor helpful. Ours were completely useless and we worked around them completely.

This shouldn't matter because you should have secured a private counselor last summer. Now you have no excuse to get your kid the private counselor NOW.
