Travel stroller that can handle cobblestones

We’re going to Italy with our 1 and 3 year old kids. Our 3 year old is very tall, so I’m leaning toward the Joolz Aer Plus. Can anyone speak to how it handles on cobblestones? I’ve heard the Yoyo is popular in Italy, but it’s a pain to fold and I don’t like that my kids can’t sit upright in it.

I really can't speak to cobblestones in particular but a comfortable ride on bumpy terrain is largely determined by tire diameter - the larger, the more easily it'll roll over bumps and cracks. If the locals favor ones with tiny wheels then either the cobblestones really don't matter, they've figured out a way around it, or they just don't care.

I hate to say this because the price point is a bit silly but the Butterfly is supposed to be excellent for tall kids, and typically bugaboo wheels are good on rough terrain.

The baby jogger would be my next suggestion but it’s not specifically good for tall kids.

We have the Joolz Aer as our only stroller. We’ve never tried Italy, but it handled Old City Montreal just fine. I love it and sing its praises to anyone that will listen.

Absolutely not the BabyZen Yo-yo. I have it and it’s super bumpy on just about anything.

All of these strollers have tiny wheels. Anecdotes about which ones handle bumps better or worse are a reflection of their owners bump tolerances and not the stroller itself. You're not going to beat something like the BOB revolution with its larger wheels, suspension, and air filled tires for bumpier terrain. It'll just be bulkier for travel.

You can maximize compactness or smoothness over terrain, bit both at the same time.

Your 3 year old is going to have to walk on the cobblestone parts, honestly. There isn't a great stroller for that. And while there are some cobblestone parts, they aren't everywhere.

We took our Nuna Trvl to Rome and it worked out well.

We took our Uppababy G-Luxe to Rome and it worked fine (3.5 year old). It's a little challenging to fold/unfold, but I like the strap you can use to carry it on your back.

We borrowed a Summer Infant D-Lite when we went to Portugal a few years before and I absolutely loved it (with an 18 mo). So light, easy to fold, had a recline feature, etc. I wish we had purchased that one instead.

Both strollers handled the cobblestones fine and were light enough to pick up "Chariot style" when going up and down stairs.

Having traveled a lot with young kids, I'd recommend one single stroller with inflatable tires. The 3yo can walk most of the time, and when they get tired, switch and let the 1yo be carried or walk a little bit. In a pinch, you can pile both kids in the stroller, 3yo holds younger sibling. Double strollers are a real p.i.t.a. on these kinds of trips.

We lived in Italy and used the Baby Jogger City Mini. It was great on cobblestones but too wide for some streets (and elevators). We did babywearing as much as — and for as long as — possible. I don’t think I ever saw anyone with a Yoyo (although they are ubiquitous in Paris).
