NOVA - electric only heat/AC - what are bills like?

Anonymous
We are looking at some SFHs in NOVA, but it seems many of the neighborhoods are all electric forced for heat + AC. Home sizes are roughly 2000-2500 sq feet including basement.

If you are in a similar home with that kind of utility setup, what are your winter utility bills like? I'm used to electric AC, but our heat was gas/radiator heat in our prior home.

It's going to vary with the age of the house and equipment, as well as personal habits, but mine is $300 at peak and under or right at $100 during shoulder season. The rates are public so you can probably fine an online usage estimator and go from there.

for a house you are super interested in, you can have your agent ask the listing agent for typical utility bills/MWh usage, say in august and december. Sometimes this info is already included in the disclosures.

1500 sq ft above ground, 1000 sq ft basement. I use Dominion's balanced budget plan so my bill is $190 per month year round. Use a newish heat pump for heat and AC.
Peak usage in the 12 mos was 1750kwh (winter), average is 1090 kwh.

This is us too. Under 200/mo. And we have a hot tub and all work from home so higher usage of utilities. Heat pumps are great!
