Any 'rat problem' neighborhoods in CC/Bethesda?

Anonymous
We are considering a move up the road, and one of the reasons I am ready to leave DC is the general grime. That being said, I was out in Georgetown last night and thinking how charming it was UNTIL a rat/mouse darted across the restaurant outdoor space. I get it, it's damp, there's a big water table underneath, but still, ew.. Do the town centers of Bethesda (like Bethesda row or old Bethesda) or CC (like the market) have a similar 'rat problem'? How about the close in neighborhoods of Chevy Chase,,Somerset, Edgemoor...thanks for any info..seeking fewer rats!

Rats are everywhere, OP, and certainly anywhere with restaurants. I think you’ll see them less in the burbs over Georgetown just because the trash is farther from the pedestrians.

The answer is no. There is no rat problem like you see downtown DC in the areas mentioned. DC is infested.

No, our local foxes keep the rat population under control.

Thank you. This is helpful

Rats know not to cross Western Ave.

The rat problem is really a DC thing. I see them all the time in DC but don’t recall ever seeing one in Bethesda or Chevy Chase.

Not true at all. Rats are all over dense parts of MoCo. Don’t you see all of those black boxes (rat traps) outside of businesses in the area?

You just don’t see them because the development is newer and the code was better about keeping dumpsters away from people.

Anywhere with restaurants you will get rats. But in more suburban areas, not so much. I live in CC right by the park and see the occasional field mouse, but not rats.

You won’t get rats but possibly raccoons in Moco

It makes me happy if an effort is made to trap them. Are you referring to restaurant dense areas? Is it mostly successful? I have eaten at "fine dining" restaurants in DC where rats are scampering over people's feet in the outdoor space. It's wretched. I just can't cope with the rats anymore.
