Upper middle class liberal here. I don't mind paying more taxes especially if it were for universal health care and what not. But I do mind paying more taxes to give tax cuts to top 1%. Plus the Republicans hope to put our deficit more in the hole so that they can can rid of social security and medicare. So I am not in favor of tax cuts at least not the kind the Republicans are proposing. In fact they need to raise taxes on the likes of Trump et al. Vote Democratic and vote every time! |

Annual savings: Retirement savings $18K, College Savings $10K, Health care expenses (including premiums) $12-14K, I currently pay around $17K in federal taxes, $11K in payroll, $11K in state and $7K property I would definitely be willing to pay more in taxes to the federal government if I got more help in these the areas of retirement, healthcare and higher education and therefore did not have to save as much myself. Also be willing to pay more to help others who are less fortunate than we are Definitely willing to pay more to get better government services that would ensure my children and grandchildren had a bright future (research funding, infrastructure, environmental regulation, consumer and workplace protection, national parks, museums etc). I am not sure what the exact dollar amount I would be willing to pay is but as my example shows, I would be in a position to pay more in taxes if I had a better safety net (health care and retirement) and better government services and so did not have to save as much myself. |

Nope. M2 is low because has been printing for so long, that they've made money very easy. It's like a drug. The more you take, the less effect it has. So now the Fed has had money rushing into the system by every form possible. TANF, TALF, QE 1,2,3, Maiden Lane and a dozen other programs. In other words, easy money. Meanwhile, they lie about inflation, because the government doesn't want to increase the COLAs for the entitlements. But, when everyone is screaming we need a higher minimum wage all of sudden, you know damn well there's inflation whether Uncle Sham wants to admit it or not. Just look at the packaging sizes of consumer products and food. Now, back to Velocity of Money. When you make money so easy by printing and printing like the fed has, prices on bigger items like houses and cars and education rises. That locks out a lot of the people on the lower end, so the velocity of money stops because they aren't buying. See what happens when the govt gets too involved in economics and central planning of the economy? If prices are allowed to go where they have to without massive manipulation like the federal reserve and treasury and Washington DC are doing, then velocity of money naturally rises. The masterminds and overlords in DC are screwing us with price supports, artificial inducements and subsidies and unrealistic pricing caused by bad political policy. |

Great, so you propose that someone in DC tell everyone to spend money on universal healthcare, investments in clean energy, childcare subsides and access to higher education. Since the money will now be spent on what you want because you want this done by "fiat", what will the money not be spent on? Travel and vacations? New cars? Housing additions? Clothing? New electronics? Landscaping? Passing it on via charity? New forms of entertainment? Because you want a mandate on spending how you want it, does that mean the earner doesn't get to decide where this 10-20k a year goes themselves, even though they earn it... because money can't be spent on two things at once? So just take from earners and spend it as you deem it should be? Do you see a problem with that thinking... because you're starving the economy of a lot of market driven forces by fiat. |
