this is the only place to admit it

They rarely share this information with others who are not close family or friends and the reason for their reluctance is precisely because of the reaction that you see from posters who cannot conceive that a person of color would consider voting for Trump. I wonder how many of these people there are and whether they get counted in the polls.

He's got between 30-50% of the vote in polls. Do you think your DIL is not counted?

I really have no idea. I do know that when she gets the occasional call asking for her voting preferences she just refuses to participate.

Not the OP but fairly common in DC. I am friends with many from all walks if life, mostly liberal. Conversations here often start with impassioned generalization and the blanket expectation of agreement. I'm too old to argue and its not a litmus test for me in friendships. I do listen, but I only share my views and speak frankly with my husband. It just feels sort of pointless if you trend towards conservative in DC. You get painted with one tedious and extreme paint brush. I'd like to hear more about OPs thinking though. I haven't made up my mind.

Maybe if you didn't meekly stand on the sidelines with your tail between your legs while tedious and extreme people put themselves forward as representative of conservatism as a whole...

Maybe. I just find the weight of liberalism overwhelming in DC. I am from here, it's not surprising to me. It's just reality. I prefer to enjoy my friends and not get into it all. There are obviously plenty of people who agree with me. probably plenty of people who disagree with me but I could speak to in a moderated way--just not in DC. Or at least I haven't found them.

DC liberals, how many conservative friends do you have whose views you engage with? Hpw many conservative friends do you have who you love knowing their views? Here in DC?

My brother is pretty conservative and may vote for Trump. He hasn't said for sure, but he really hates Hillary. We do talk politics from time to time, but it would be inconceivable for politics to ever get between us.

I am white woman.

I voted for Obama twice.

I am voting for Trump because he is a disrupter. He is to politics as Uber is to taxis.

Talk about not voting in your self interest.

PP, what do you suppose the OP's self interests might be?

If Trump ran Uber, it would be bankrupt.

Listen, I hate Trump. Mostly b/c he scares me and I think he is incredibly thin skinned. He literally ruins people who disagree with him. I have NO idea what the hell he stands for and definitely don't believe he is a good businessman.

I am not crazy about Hillary either. She's not going to set the world on fire, but she won't burn it down either.

So OP, why do you like Trump? How can you believe what he says since he was literally pro-choice and a democrat yesterday?

Hey, there's at least two of us out here.

Very very uncomfortable to tell/explain to people that I am voting for Trump. I will not discuss any political views. I'm often listening. My reasons for voting for him would be picked apart on here and in person. I don't want to subject myself to it. Not a troll. Just uncomfortable being transparent about a decision that is unpopular among my peers and to the larger extent-the nation.

I consider a plan to vote for Trump a major character flaw, especially after sampling the circus that is the GOP convention.

But we don't know each other (I hope) so it's safe to say anonymously. Likewise, you can give your reasons without much impact. So why not share your reasons? Yes, they'll be picked apart but what's the point of saying you'll vote for Trump if not to say why?

Is it me or are liberals on here coming off like bullies? Funny you don't hear much of this kind of talk from Republicans. Could it be that the Republican voters accept that people have different points of view? Seriously pp, you are the one with the "character flaw" - your flaw as that you have a superiority complex.
I cannot imagine what it feels like to believe that people who don't vote for who I vote for have flawed characters.

Is it just me or are republicans coming off like thin-skinned cowards? What would you do in interwar Germany? Ask very nicely for peace? I'm not pulling a Neville Chamberlain. I'm happy to engage in a fact-based debate and there are plenty of threads doing that. Obviosuly we have different views of what is good character. If you're so concerned about bullies and niceness, I have no idea why you'd even contemplate voting for Trump.

That's exactly what Obama and Hillary are doing with ISIS. See other DCUM thread where liberals are talking about how an olive branch is appropriate.

Saying that someone who votes for Trump has a major character flaw explains why people don't want to admit it. It's such a harsh judgment against them on a personal level.

Get over it! It's the internet! On DCUM, you don't even have a screen name to defend, so why do you care if an anonymous internet poster says something nasty? If anything, this is the place to prove Trump supporters aren't the thin-skinned stupid racists they are supposed to be, and there is no bad consequence to you if you fail to make your point.

Not the PP, but my first thought is because I'm not pathological.

No, because they are statistically irrelevant.

Another Democrat, Loretta Lynch, has a similar mindset. Remember how she said the best response to Islamic terrorism (well....she didn't call them that) was "love"? Oh yeah, that'll work.

I think there is value in a disrupter to the system, maybe even the Presidency. It just should not be Trump.

Would not, could not vote for Trump. Not in the house, not with a mouse.
