I hear your point but I think the issue is about the treatment. Squirrels are out there climbing teees and being squirrels up until the day they are shot for meat. If you eat free range chickens, same deal, they are doing what chickens do. But dogs were specifically bred to be out companions, so the idea of putting them into small cages to fatten for meat and then lkilljng them is offensive. I would feel differently if each of these dogs was given a nice home with chew toys and taken on good sniff walks up until the day the knacker came for him. Cows should be allowed to do the things cows do (stand stoned in a meadow), chickens should do what they do, and dogs should be able to do what they are bred to do. |
Norway has outlawed the castration of dogs (and other animals). They now get a vasectomy instead. So do most dogs in Germany, although it's not illegal yet. Tail and ear docking are illegal though. As far as Germany banning the breeds, it's due to the poor wording of the new Animal Cruelty laws. "Anomalien des Skelettsystems" which means anamolies of the skeletal system and is vague, so very open to interpretation. It could impact all dogs with short legs: Beagle, Jack Russell Terrier und Dackel (Dachshund) |
My animal rescue dog had none of this, had active giardia that had to be treated, then had to be spayed, needed shots, a microchip, and the adoption fee was $500, not a recommendation. |
Love that the anti adoption commenters are keeping this post on the front page to help promote the rescue program. |
Well if you don't see the difference between dog and cat meat why should you care about eating dolphins or giraffes or pandas? Meat is meat, right? |
I tried to get a vasecotomy but no vet would do it. |
Your logic makes no sense. Some dogs are bred for companionship, others not. You seem to be justifying your position with made up non-sense. You think the animals you eat are treated humanly. Of course not. You can tell yourself that to justify it, but the reality is very different. |
Congratulations? Most shelters don't have adoption fees that high, and even so, $500 kept your pet alive until you adopted him. How much do we pay kennels to keep our pets each day we're away? It's 700$/week on average in the DC area. |
New poster here. What a childish response. This entire subject is ridiculous. Also Pitt bulls should be banned. I hope someone stops this ridiculous plan. |
New poster. Why are you here if you hate dogs and eat them? You know you don't have to comment. I hope we have more Pit bulls than ever and you get banned. Thank god you can't stop people saving these dogs. You suck |
They aren't saving them when many of these dogs remain in shelters for years, if not the rest of their life or they get bounced from family to family due to behavioral and other issues. This should be illegal as they are basically smuggling these dogs in. |
You must travel a lot. We would never ever kennel our dog. That's not humane. |
