Turning down a much higher-ranked/more prestigious school

It's always pseudo prestige colleges which have gamed their way up the US News rankings; ex. WashU, UChicago, Hopkins undergrad, Northwestern, NYU. The average person does not care about these colleges, so it's easy to not blow the cash if you're on the financial margins and $320,000+ is a major blow to your family finances.

Northwestern and Chicago pseudo prestige? How old are you?

Such obvious trolling. Nobody pays to apply to such random privates all around the country, gets into multiple, then goes to the public university two hours from home.

HA. okay. Pomona is the only one not in a 2-6 hour radius from our home (all NE). It was all his doing because he read about it in the Princeton review guide last year ... and read that description and tell me who would NOT want to go there. IF you have the guide and you read the 'student life' section.

I wouldn't call GU, UVA and Ivies random privates. One outlier only.

Yes, they do, PP. I just sat in a huge conference room with a bunch of other parents who were considering this very thing at a state flagship admitted students day two weeks ago. Your perspective might have been more correct two decades ago but not this year.
