TJ waitlist chances

Anonymous
I understand chances are very slim to move off waitlist as the majority of applicants are waitlisted. Does anyone know how many typically get in via waitlist and does TJ share any info on how high or low you are on the list if you reach out?

Of course they dont share that detail of information. Well over a quarter of the offers went to 8th grade Algebra 1 applicants mostly from historically underrepresented schools, and a significant number of them let go their offers, and most of those get returned to the unallocated pool. From the unallocated pool, the waitlisted from Carson, Longfellow, Kilmer, Rocky run, Cooper, Frost middle and Lake Braddock stand to benefit the most.

Isnt it more like one third of the offers went to 8th grade Algebra 1 applicants? That was the whole reason for admissions change, as previously only 20+ algebra 1 kids managed to get in, but now over 150 offers go to the lowest level math applicants.

Despite all the handwringing by the folks on this board, most of the people here are really just looking for reasons why they should accept and most people find those reasons. Almost noone gets in off the waitlist.

This Friday, you will see the waitlist offers go out.

As a percentage, because there are about 1000 people on the waitlist. But how many decline? At our school of 10 offers I think half might decline. I know of two for sure. The school may end up releasing spots to the general pool(or is it 5 a Loudoun only pool?)

Why would they apply if they planned to decline?

Because for FCPS' preferred profile, applying causes them almost nothing and they will have a free option to take the offer or not. But, I think majority will take the offers. Hence, the jump in dropout rate.

Options are good. A kid who is thinking that they might like to go to TJ but are not sure is better off applying then not.

I think last year about 75 kids got off the waitlist. But your chances will depend on the number of people who decline from your base school.

Today at 4:00 PM is the regular admissions deadline.

Wait-list offers will likely go out after 4:00 PM today.

There isn't a jump in dropout rate.

There were fewer than 10 dropouts in the old admissions, there are 40-50 now. There are also 70-80 declined offers now.

BTW, anyone had an offer on Friday?

I might take a day to process all acceptances and the waitlist offers.
