Experience with Institute of Reading Development Summer Programs?

Has anyone done one of these before?

This is their website: https://readingprograms.org/

In our area, these programs are done in partnership with Loyola Maryland. Anyone put their kids through it or know someone who put their kids through it?

Um no, just read with your kid

We've been doing it for years and love it. I've recommended it to multiple friends and their kids love it. Happy to answer any questions you have about it. My oldest is a 4th grader. He first did it in person as a rising kindergartener and then did online only from the time he was in 1st grade. They instill a love of reading and the books they select are always wonderful, really well-written stories. Some of the books he's read in the older grades in the program that I can recall off the top of my head include:

Charlotte's web
The lion, the witch, and the wardrobe
Black stallion
Tuck Everlasting
Bud not buddy
Louisiana's way home
Number the stars
Snow Treasure
The homework machine
The donut fix
Swindle
Matilda
James and the giant peach
Mouse and the motorcycke

He's about to read Mrs. Frisby the rats of nymph of his upcoming program. You can see the books for each grade level on their website.

My youngest who is a first grader, just started
this year.

Can you please recommend the books for my second grader son who likes to read?

I can do one better . Check out their website and it'll list the books they are using for the spring and summer program for each grade. It's gotten a bit more convoluted to find it but I'll try to walk you through it. Let me know if you are successful.

1. Go to their website: https://readingprograms.org/

2. On the left side where there are those three short lines at the top -- click on that and select spring or summer program.

3. Select your child's grade (current or upcoming)

4. Scroll all the way down the page, past the schedule, to the section labeled "Questions? We're an open book".

Go to the 7th question labeled "What do students learn and read in this program". You'll see a list of what they will be reading during the two summer sessions.

It used to be easier to see their offerings, but recently they embedded it a bit more in the website.

I'd suggest also looking at offerings for the grade above as well. During the program, they always assess each kid's reading fluency twice during the 6-week program to ensure they are in the right reading grade level. My 4th grade was moved up two grade levels over the course of the years we've been doing it. My 1st grader just got moved up a grade level. There's no rush to moving up as the program is so much more than just reading. It's communicating well, speaking up, and expressing your ideas.

Let me know if my instructions worked. I'm on my phone so apologize for any typos.
