I predict this will be ... uh ... the breakout television event of this year's Olympics. Have you SEEN the clips of breakdancers on TikTok, usually performing to the remix of Lady Gaga's "I'll Always Remember You?" They're LIT. And made for TV.

How is different than, say, figure skating or rhythym gymnastics, OP?

Olympics is dying. Once the younger boomers/old gen x are gone, nobody will be watching it on t.v.. No viewership means no ad money. It has also been plagued with a lot of scandal, and Russia invaded the Ukraine during the Olympics. I'm guessing gen z will cancel it.

It is exactly the same as rhythmic gymnastics. And ice dancing. Also stupid. Next thing you know singing and playing musical instruments will be an Olympic sport. Finishing Rubik’s cubes. Cup stacking. Chess. Just because something is a competitive hobby doesn’t make it Olympics worthy.

You do know that the modern Olympics originally did have juried arts and crafts, right? For like 40 years?

The Olympics jumped the shark a while ago. They’re just desperately trying to stay relevant to the youth, who can’t be bothered to look up from their phones or video games.

See also: synchronized swimming. Bizarre event but it's now been in the Olympics for 30 years. Still seems weird, like h.s. drill team kind if thing.

Olympics have been trash since they started allowing clothes.

For real. We need to bring it back to the way the OG Greeks did it... wrestling in a sand pit in the buff!

There's still women's beach volleyball. I'm pretty sure that gets good ratings.

Nah, I’m a millennial and i love live events and the niche sports you see every 4 years. Like, just thinking about people devoting their lives to training 40 hours a week in synchronized swimming. Gelatin in the hair, the insane walk up routines (that don’t actually count to their score), detailed hand positions, etc.

I don’t watch all of it, but i love having something different going on for a week every two years.

I don’t see how archery is any more worthy than synchronized swimming, just because it’s been around longer? Performance sports take a ton of discipline and athleticism. Archery or shooting events just require a good eye.
