Sorry, I don’t drink cocktails very often. In the past, I have enjoyed martinis, however, I wasn’t the biggest fan of the glass. I’m thinking I might like it better if it was in a rocks glass over ice. Or would that be a major faux pas?
The motive being I enjoy the flavor, I get a super chilled shaken drink, and in a preferable glassware. If this is a normal request, how would you say this to a bartender or waitress? Thank you! |
I do this all the time, as I am clumsy and that martini glass just begs to be knocked over. Just order the drink as normal and ask for it to be put in a rocks glass. That’s it. |
+1. My husband has a tremor and does this all the time. No big deal. |
When you say in a rocks glass do they automatically assume that also means with ice? I was worried they’d assume that meant in that glass but neat like a martini is served. I’d prefer it with ice in a rocks glass. I also wasn’t sure if you say over ice, if they’d rationalize skipping the shaking routine. I like martinis because they’re immediately so cold. I want the shaking + ice in the glass. |
Ask for it in a double old fashion glass. |
Ask for a martini on the rocks |
This, in a double old fashioned glass |
The stem on the martini glass supposedly keeps it colder. And there’s something about sipping the martini from a very thin rim that adds to the chill! |
I don’t like martinis in particular but I do this frequently for other drinks on a cocktail menu served up in a martini glass. I find I drink too fast and need the ice. Just ask for it on the rocks. |
No no, this might get you ice. Just say "I'd like it in a low ball glass". |
Don't do this unless you want it served on ice. "I'd like it in a rocks/lowball glass, but no ice please" |
I actually want the ice. I don't like drinking cocktails with no ice. I find I can better pace myself with ice and the drink feels more substantial. |
I wouldn't do it with ice, but I often order cocktails in a rocks glass. I am very spill-prone! I'm sure they would accommodate your request, even with ice. |
I thought a rocks glass was the same as an old fashioned glass? |
I know they'll accommodate any request, I just didn't want to seem strange or difficult. I wasn't sure how common this sort of request is. |
